Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist for Inherited Cardiac Conditions. This post is within the Cardiology Department/Medicine Division of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
This is a full-time, 10-PA Consultant Cardiologist post with a special interest in Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC), with the principal focus of the role being to provide and develop a high-quality specialist regional ICC service. The post holder will be responsible for the specialist assessment, diagnosis, investigation, risk stratification and ongoing management of patients with inherited cardiovascular diseases, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and in close collaboration with colleagues in genetics and other specialist cardiac services.
The role includes managing a broad range of inherited cardiac conditions and supporting the delivery and development of pathways for patients and their families, including appropriate referral, specialist investigations, surveillance and long-term follow-up. A key aspect is contributing to the continued development of the regional ICC service, working with the wider clinical team to improve patient pathways, quality of care and service provision. The consultant will also contribute to education and training of colleagues and trainees, participate in clinical governance, audit, research and quality-improvement activity relevant to ICC, and work collaboratively with other specialist centres where required.
The post includes some general inpatient and acute cardiology commitments alongside the ICC role. Depending on the post holder’s expertise, there may also be opportunities for cardiac imaging or device cath-lab sessions. The key focus is to provide specialist ICC expertise and contribute to the continued development of the regional ICC service.

Specialist Practice: Participate in the reshaping and development of a growing Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) service.
Work-Life Balance: Flexible job planning with 10–12 Programmed Activities (PAs), approximately 2:16 ward on-call frequency, comprising a 1:8 commitment to the CCU/General Cardiology ward and a 1:8 commitment to ward referrals, and electronic vetting. The Cardiologist covering the referral and vetting services is supported by a registrar throughout the shift.
Regional Links: Strong collaborative links with regional centres in Exeter and Plymouth, as well as nationally renowned centres
Facilities: Access to comprehensive cardiac imaging, device services, and catheter labs.
Protected SPA Time: 2.5 SPAs in Year 1 (1.5 SPAs thereafter).
